REPORT: MultiVersus Adds Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion and Ted Lasso

According to the same leaker who first reported MultiVersus being the works, Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion and Ted Lasso are joining the platform fighter.

A new report claims that Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat gaming franchise and Ted Lasso are joining Warner Bros. platform fighting game, MultiVersus.

The report comes from the same leaker on Reddit who first reported that MultiVersus was in the works. According to a new post, an updated roster for the game includes Jason Sudeikis’ main character from the Ted Lasso television series, as well as the fan-favorite fighter from Mortal Kombat, Hanzo Hasashi. However, the leaker notes in the post that in their opinion, they “very much doubt even a majority of these characters, even the datamined ones,” will be available when the game launches.

Ted Lasso follows Sudeikis as an American college football coach who moves to London to coach another kind of football team (or soccer, for those who know the sport by that name). The first two seasons of the show are available to stream on AppleTV+, and it has been renewed for a third season, which was originally envisioned to be the final installment of Ted Lasso. The show has been nominated for and won multiple awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, and Sudeikis has brought home two Golden Globes and other awards for his performance alone.

As for Scorpion, many fighting game fans are likely no stranger to Mortal Kombat. The franchise is likely a bit more brutal than MultiVersus and follows a war between different realms (like EarthRealm and Outworld), which is settled by a tournament between the best fighters of each. Scorpion is a mainstay character and one face of the franchise alongside another fighter, Sub-Zero. The franchise has been adapted both for live-action and animated films, with actor Hiroyuki Sanada portraying Scorpion in Mortal Kombat (2021).

If Ted Lasso and Scorpion are in fact joining MultiVersus, they add to the game’s already impressive roster of fan-favorite characters from various Warner Bros. projects. DC Universe heroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman will be available to play, along with cartoon characters like Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, Bugs Bunny and Taz from Looney Toons, and Tom and Jerry from (of course) Tom & Jerry. A notable inclusion for MultiVersus is Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, who appears to have been given his memed “Ultra Instinct” abilities based on the official trailer for the game.

MultiVersus is scheduled to launch in 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
