Merrimack Valley country club closing, being sold to popular craft brewer

A Merrimack Valley country club said after 25 years, it is closing and selling to a popular Massachusetts craft brewer.“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that after 25 wonderful years we have made the very difficult decision to sell the Tewksbury Country Club,” the club posted on Facebook. The club’s owner told WCVB that COVID-19 shutdowns and restrictions contributed to the decision to sell. “We were shut down for close to a year and a half and even when we opened up, a lot of restrictions were in place,” owner Marc Ginsburg said. On Friday, Tree House Brewing announced it is buying the property.“An opportunity came along out of nowhere. This wasn’t even a conversation three weeks ago,” Ginsburg said of the Tree House deal.Unfortunately, the sale means heartbreak for wedding couples who had the venue booked beyond 2022.All 2022 dates will go on as planned, but about three dozen events had to be canceled for 2023. “Things kind of moved lighting fast. We tried really hard to preserve as much as we could preserve, certainly for 2022,” Ginsburg said.Ginsburg said they are refunding all deposits and trying to help affected couples secure new locations.“We refunded everybody’s event and we also gave them some compensation for the inconvenience there. So, they got their money back. They got more money on top of that,” he said. Tree House said it plans an expansive beer hall and retail store and plans to continue to operate the golf course and other amenities.“Tree House is purchasing Tewksbury Country Club from Marc Ginsburg and family. In getting to know Marc and his team, and in learning the history of the Club, it was clear that they share the same passion for great experiences and the meticulous attention to detail that we do. We will carry on their legacy with the full vigor and enthusiasm of Tree House Brewing Company,” the brewer said in a release.Tree House has locations in Charlton, Deerfield, Sandwich in Massachusetts and its orchard in Woodstock, Connecticut.
